What’s the story behind S.T.E.P.?

Here, at The Speech Village, we strive to create an environment where each and every family we work with knows that they will be treated with kindness, understanding, and respect from the first moment that they “step” into “The Village.” And once inside, together, we will take all the “steps” (sometimes big, sometimes small, always celebrated) necessary to ensure your child has all of the skills that they need to succeed.

In our S.T.E.P. class, we get an early start on developmental skills, such as speech, receptive and expressive language, social communication, and feeding. When thinking about words that represented these topics, talk, play, smile, and eat, jumped out at us. When put in the right order, the first letter of each word spells “step.” And, as they say, the rest is history.

S.T.E.P. Enrichment Class

The S.T.E.P. enrichment class aims to support speech, language, and feeding development through exposure to interactive songs and activities as well as caregiver education that can be used at home to help little ones grow their skills. In addition to the songs and activities, each class features:

- a “Sound of the Day” to target early speech sounds

- a “Strategy of the Day” to facilitate language development

- a “Tip of the Day” to assist with feeding development

- handouts on speech, language, play, and feeding

The S.T.E.P. Enrichment Class is led by a certified speech-language pathologist and is intended for children ages 6 to 24 months and their caregivers.
