Monthly Topic Series: May

It’s May and our monthly topic is… the zoo! Check out some of our speech, language, and feeding activity recommendations below!

Speech - Animal Sounds

Turn your walk around the zoo into a game! Decide on a target sound and see how many animals you can find that have the target sound in their name. For example, if you’re practicing /l/, make sure to stop by the lion and elephant exhibits.

Language - Guess that Animal

Practice describing while showing off your knowledge that you learned at the zoo! Take turns providing different characteristics of a mystery animal and see if you can guess its identity correctly. For example, if you choose a rhino as my mystery animal, you could say its size is large, its color is gray, its texture is thick skin, some of its body parts include 4 legs, a tail, and a horn, it lives in hot and wide open places, and it charges at things it finds threatening.

Feeding - Go Wild

Bring the zoo home by making some animals! Cut your favorite fruits and veggies (or other foods!) into a variety of shapes and use toothpicks to hold the pieces together.
