Monthly Topic Series: June
It’s June and our monthly topic is…water! Whether you hit the pool, ocean or lake or hang at home with a water table, hose, or bathtub, check out some of our speech, language, and feeding activity recommendations below!
We even added in a book recommendation while our weekly book series is on hold for the summer!
Speech - Spray and Say
Decide on a target sound and then round up your water toys (e.g., water guns, noodles, etc.). Use the water toys to spray objects that have the target sound. Add some competition to the fun by saying that whoever finds the most items gets to spray the person who finds that least items.
Language - Sink or Float
Gather some items that you know will sink or float and practice making predictions. Divide a paper in half with sink on one side and float on the other side. Predict whether you think each item will sink or float and record your guess on the paper. Once all your predictions are in, test them out!
Feeding - Ice, Ice Baby
Make fruit, veggies, and water fun! Put some fruits or veggies (e.g., blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, oranges, cucumbers, etc.) with water in ice cube trays and freeze them. Place them in water to jazz it up and increase intake (fruit juice ice cubes can work too!) or try to melt the cubes and eat what’s in them.
Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall
From the publisher:
Jabari is definitely ready to jump off the diving board. He’s finished his swimming lessons and passed his swim test, and he’s a great jumper, so he’s not scared at all. But when his dad squeezes his hand, Jabari squeezes back. He needs to figure out what kind of special jump to do anyway, and he should probably do some stretches before climbing up onto the diving board.
